Sophomore forward Justin Minaya will miss the remainder of the season and take a medical redshirt, South Carolina head coach Frank Martin announced Saturday.
Minaya suffered a right knee injury in practice on Nov. 25 that required surgery. The Harrington Park, N.J. native continues to rehab the injury and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2019-20 campaign.
Minaya saw action in five games this season, averaging 7.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 25.6 minutes per contest. He tallied a season-high 11 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds versus Stony Brook. He scored in double-figures three times.
Minaya was close to returning, but with just nine games remaining, decided to take a medical redshirt so he will have three years of eligibility remaining.
