Diehard South Carolina fan and country music star Darius Rucker was not going to miss it. His Gamecocks were playing in the Elite Eight in Madison Square Garden against SEC rival Florida. Sitting courtside with his son, Rucker was able to witness history unfold firsthand. The Gamecocks pulled off yet another upset, this time knocking off Florida by a final score of 77-70.
After the game, Rucker was full of emotion, crying as the Gamecocks celebrated right in front of him. He had a moment with head coach Frank Martin, received a Final Four hat, and walked around the court in disbelief.
It's a moment he'll never forget, as he relayed to Spurs & Feathers after the game.
"This is totally unbelievable," Rucker said. "I've been a Gamecock fan for 40 years, and to be here right now going to the Final Four, coach Martin brought us so far, so quick. I love it."
Rucker is often found at South Carolina sporting events, and wears his Gamecock hat proudly all the time.
He just may hold his head a little higher for the next few weeks – or months.
