Shameik Blackshear to leave South Carolina football program

Shameik Blackshear has left the South Carolina football program, the defensive lineman announced on social media on New Year’s Eve.

The junior told The State he will graduate in May and plans to play at another college next season as a graduate transfer.

The Bluffton, S.C. native finished his Gamecocks career with 34 tackles (27 this season) and a sack (against Chattanooga), including five this season against Florida and four each against Clemson and Georgia. He played in 13 games this year, including starts against Virginia and Akron.

South Carolina will feature a defensive line unit next season that includes D.J. Wonnum, Keir Thomas, Danny Fennell, Aaron Sterling and Brad Johnson on the edges and Javon Kinlaw, Kobe Smith, Josh Belk, J.J. Enagbare, M.J. Webb. Highly-touted freshman Zacch Pickens will also be in the mix for playing time.
