Donell Stanley will return to South Carolina for the 2019 season, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.
Stanley, a fifth-year junior, had the option to enter the NFL Draft. Stanley started all 13 games for the Gamecocks this season, including 12 at center. (He started the Belk Bowl at right guard and played some left guard against Kentucky and Akron.)
Proud to announce I will be wearing that gamecock uniform one more time this season. Thanks to gamecock nation for all your support, and let’s make 2019 special!!!— Donell Stanley (@bigdonell72) January 1, 2019
During the week of the Belk Bowl, Will Muschamp said Stanley will have value when he does decide to enter the NFL.
“In that league, because of the limited rosters, he can play multiple spots,” the South Carolina head coach said. “He can be a center and he can be a guard. He could be a swing tackle if he had to. He’s very bright. He’s very intelligent. He has really good toughness and he can get movement inside on big people.”
