South Carolina football standouts Javon Kinlaw, Bryan Edwards, D.J. Wonnum, Israel Mukuamu, Zacch Pickens and Jammie Robinson have each earned postseason honors in the past few days.
Kinlaw Named USA TODAY Second Team All-American
Kinlaw, a senior defensive tackle, was named second team All-America by USA TODAY.
Kinlaw, a 6-6, 310-pounder from Charleston, S.C., notched 35 tackles and 6.0 sacks, tying for eighth in the SEC. He added four quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick. The midseason All-American and probable first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft was recognized as the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week after the Gamecocks’ win over Georgia.
He will participate in the 2020 Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 25.
Kinlaw and Edwards Named to Coaches' All-SEC Team
Kinlaw was named first team All-SEC by the league’s coaches, while Edwards, a senior receiver, was a second-team selection, the conference announced Dec. 10.
Edwards, a 6-3, 215-pounder from Conway, S.C., led the SEC with 7.1 receptions per game and ranked fourth with 81.6 receiving yards per game. He owns the school records for consecutive games with a catch (48), career receptions (234) and career receiving yards (3,045). He also ranks third in school history with 22 career receiving touchdowns, one behind Sidney Rice and Alshon Jeffery.
Kinlaw, Wonnum, Mukuamu named to AP Second Team All-SEC
Kinlaw, senior edge rusher D.J. Wonnum and sophomore cornerback Israel Mukuamu were named AP Second Team All-SEC selections.
Wonnum’s 9.5 tackles for loss were second most by a Gamecock (trailing Aaron Sterling's 10.0). He also had 37 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, an interception, three quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and one blocked kick.
Mukuamu finished fifth on the team with 59 total tackles and his four interceptions led the team. Three of those interceptions came in one game, the 20-17 overtime victory on the road against then No. 3 Georgia. One of those interceptions was a pick-six.
Pickens and Robinson Named to Coaches' All-SEC Freshman Team
Pickens and Robinson were named to the 2019 SEC Coaches All-Freshman Team, the league office announced on Dec. 12.
Pickens, a 6-3, 300-pound defensive tackle from Anderson, S.C., played in all 12 games, making 16 tackles for the Garnet & Black. A highly-recruited player who was slotted No. 9 overall by Rivals as a senior at T.L. Hanna, Pickens logged a season-high six tackles in the season opener against North Carolina.
Robinson, a 5-11, 200-pound defensive back from Leesburg, Ga., played in all 12 games making three starts. He ranked third on the team with 62 tackles, the most ever by a true freshman at South Carolina. He posted a career-high 15 tackles at Texas A&M, the most by a Gamecock freshman since 1994. He ranked fifth in the SEC among freshmen with 5.2 tackles per game and tied for third among SEC freshmen with five passes defended.
