Historically, wherever the team is located, the Raiders organization has prided itself on being fast and physical. On Friday night, the team added a player with just those attributes when it selected former South Carolina receiver Bryan Edwards with the No. 81 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
“We think Bryan Edwards is an outstanding X, meaning he’s that big, physical, tough, fast, wide receiver on the opposite side,” Las Vegas general manager Mike Mayock told reporters on a Zoom teleconference Friday night. “We think he can win one on one matchups.
“We loved his production in the SEC. … As a whole, we wanted to get more dynamic on offense. … He’s a big, strong, physical guy that can run fast.”
The GM later added, “Now, Bryan Edwards, is a guy that, if you go three by one, with three [receivers] on one side and him on the backside, and let him run down the red line, and back- shoulder fade, regular fade, all the big-bodied throws where you think he can win. He’s big. He’s physical and he’s got great hands.”
Edwards, who Mayock said impressed on a Zoom teleconference interview, joins fellow Raiders’ draftees Ruggs (receiver, Alabama), Damon Arnette (cornerback, Auburn), Lynn Bowden (running back/receiver, Kentucky) and Tanner Muse (linebacker, Clemson).
“We got guys with a little edge to them, that love football,” Mayock said about his total draft haul. “Guys that have some speed, and above all, they love the game and they’re tough kids.”
