CHARLOTTE — Cornerback A.J. Turner, receiver OrTre Smith and defensive back J.T. Ibe did not play in South Carolina’s season-opening 24-20 loss to North Carolina on Saturday.

Turner and Smith missed the game because of shoulder injuries and should play next week, Will Muschamp said after the game.

“[They were] game-time decisions,” the Gamecock head coach said. “They will be fine.”

It’s not known why Ibe, who has been limited with a pectoral strain the past few weeks, missed the game.

Turner’s injury had not previously been reported on.

Smith had knee surgery last fall and was limited in the spring but was a full-time practice participant during training camp. In 2018 he played in just two games before succumbing to a lingering knee issue that required surgery.

Ibe made four starts last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. On Aug. 12 in South Carolina’s first scrimmage this training camp, Ibe strained a pectoral muscle, the same injury he suffered while playing at Rice, causing him to miss practice time.
