A handful of South Carolina alumni in the NFL took part in the league’s Wild Card playoff round this past weekend.
Of the five who played, only one (Jadeveon Clowney) is on a team that won and advanced to this coming weekend’s Divisional Round.
Here’s a rundown of how the Gamecocks did:
Jadeveon Clowney (2011-13), Seattle Seahawks DE: Clowney had a sack and five tackles (two for loss) and a quarterback hit in Seattle’s 17-9 victory over Philadelphia. During the regular season Clowney had three sacks, one interception (which he returned for a TD), three passes defended, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 31 tackles and 14 QB hits.
Jared Cook (2006-08), New Orleans Saints TE: Cook had five catches for 54 yards in the Saints’ 26-20 season-ending loss to Minnesota. He had 43 catches for 705 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns this season.
Patrick DiMarco (2007-10), Buffalo Bills FB: DiMarco was active and had no stats (despite being thrown one pass) in Buffalo’s season-ending loss to Houston. He had five catches for 40 yards and three rushes for seven yards this season.
Stephon Gilmore (2009-11), New England Patriots CB: Gilmore had two tackles in New England’s season-ending loss. He had a career-high six interceptions (two pick-sixes), 20 passes defended (tied for a career-high) and 53 tackles this season.
Johnathan Joseph (2005), Houston Texans CB: Joseph did not play in Houston’s wild card round win over Buffalo because of a hamstring injury. It has yet to be determined if he will take part in Houston’s Divisional Round game against Kansas City. He has one interception, 51 tackles and 13 passes defended this season.
Taylor Stallworth (2014-17), New Orleans Saints DT: Stallworth had one tackle in the Saints’ season-ending loss.
D.J. Swearinger (2009-12), New Orleans Saints S: Swearinger was inactive.
Rashad Fenton (2015-18), Kansas City Chiefs CB: The AFC No. 2 seed Chiefs had a bye. After sitting out three weeks with a hamstring injury, Fenton saw the second-most playing time of his career during week 17 and had one pass defended. He has a forced fumble, interception, 12 tackles, four passes defended and a QB hit this season.
Hayden Hurst (2015-17), Baltimore Ravens TE: The AFC No. 1 seed Ravens had a bye. Garnet Thor has 30 catches for 349 yards and two touchdowns this season.
Alshon Jeffery (2009-11), Philadelphia Eagles WR: Jeffery was put on season-ending IR after he exited Philadelphia’s Week 14 game with a left foot injury. He had 43 catches for 490 yards and four touchdowns and one rushing touchdown this season.
Deebo Samuel (2015-18), San Francisco 49ers WR: NFC No. 1 seed San Francisco had a bye. Samuel has 57 catches for 802 yards and three touchdowns this season. He also has 14 rushes for 159 yards and three touchdowns.
