South Carolina forward Aliyah Boston earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this season, the league office announced Tuesday. Boston's dominance helped the Gamecocks to the 2019 Paradise Jam Reef Division title, clinched with a 15-point win over then-No. 2/2 Baylor on Saturday night.
Over three games of the Paradise Jam, Boston posted 15.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She shot 75.0 percent (21-of-28) from the field and scored in double figures every game of the tournament, including 10 points in just 14 minutes against then-No. 17/23 Indiana in the opener.
After a 15-point outing against Washington State, the 6-foot-5 Boston capped her hometown tournament with her fourth double-double of the season to help drive home the win over the reigning National Champion Lady Bears. She tied for team-high honors with 20 points and led the way with a career-high 13 rebounds, including 10 points and six rebounds in the decisive fourth quarter of that victory.
On the season, Boston is the Gamecocks' leading scorer and rebounder at 14.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Her 73.0 percent field goal shooting and 3.1 blocked shots per game lead the SEC and rank third and seventh in the nation, respectively. She is 12th in the nation with four double-doubles this season and is the only Gamecock to score in double figures in all nine games.
The No. 6 Gamecocks are back in action this weekend with a 3 p.m. tipoff at Temple on Saturday, Dec. 7. They return to Colonial Life Arena on Sunday, Dec. 15, for a 2 p.m. matchup with Purdue.
