A’ja Wilson posted her college career-high, 34 points, in a loss to Notre Dame. She also had nine rebounds and five assists that game.
South Carolina’s all-time great posted a similar stat line for the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday night.
Wilson scored a career-high 39 points (on 14-of-20 shooting), grabbed 11 rebounds and dished five assists to help the Las Vegas Aces (7-5) beat the Indiana Fever 102-97 on Saturday night.
The performance prompted NBA legend Dwyane Wade to post a shout out to her on Twitter, calling her a “straight beast.”
Wilson’s point total upped her previous career high (35 points) and tied the franchise record, set in 2013. It’s also the top single-game point total in the WNBA this season.
“I kind of get into this zone, this place where I can’t feel anything,” Wilson told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I just know that I have to score the basketball. I have to produce for my team. It’s a lot of fun when you pull out a win against a team that. … This is the best I’ve ever seen the Indiana Fever. They were knocking down shots at crucial moments, so for us to come out on top with a win is a big deal for us.”
The Aces took the lead for good at 95-94 on a Liz Cambage basket with 1:34 left in overtime. Cambage scored inside again 30 seconds later and Wilson made a pair of free throws to push the lead to five with 39 seconds to go.
